If a pessimist should learn optimism, then would the converse also hold true? Should the optimist learn pessimism?
Our culture holds the trait of optimism in high regard. We like optimists almost as much as we like extraverts. I suspect most of readers will immediately answer that question with a resounding “no.” If an optimist has no need for learning pessimism, then I contend that my goal — learning optimism — also lacks value. In other words, either both sides of the spectrum should learn to adopt some of the opposite thinking, or neither should.

Bad news. Good news. Or both?
I feel a little badly about saying this to you. Even just for thinking it, really.
But I don’t feel so badly that I won’t say it. I’ve been tracking the career of an author with some 10+ Lifeway-published book titles to her name and a prolific speaking calendar. Her trajectory is one that I admittedly envy. (I’m not proud of that, but there you have it.)
Today, in my inbox, I received notice that her next big event was cancelled. Cancelled. The reason? Lack of interest and registration. Not enough attendees to justify putting on the event.

Sojourning through life
Our image of vacation is distorted.
We fantasize about a glorious adventure or sublime relaxation. But does it usually happen the way the travel websites portray it?
For me, vacation begins with hours of research, sleuthing out the most economical flight and lodging arrangements to fit in our budget. Those hours disappear into the cavernous void of internet searches.
There’s also a bit of stress leading up to our departure, often imposed by my insistence that the house be sparklingly clean before we walk out the door (it’s a thing I have). And the last minute errands to procure whatever ‘necessity’ I’m certain we can’t do without for the coming days.
